Seminar Poddebice 2001, Poland

"Application of Genetic Engineering (GM) in Architecture, Construction and Affiliated Industries"

BACKGROUND

POLONEUM DELEGATION 2001 left Australia for Europe on 22nd June 2001 and made a significant effort by introducing the invited representatives of chosen European business entities and organisations to the document of POLONEUM PROPOSAL 2001. This activity delivered its wonder-fruit - the world's first-of-its-kind industry specific seminar on application of genetic modification (GM) in architecture, construction and affiliated industries. The event took place on 17th August 2001 in a renaissance palace in Poddebice (literally - "township under oaks"), Poland, and the local TV station recorded the entire function.
The seminar was hosted by POLONEUM President, Stan Kabacinski, who welcomed the geneticists of local higher educational institutions and the crowd of 50 guests - representatives of the invited companies and organisations. The event was a pioneering effort in the right direction, which was appreciated by the chairman of the national architectural association's regional chapter. It proved to be a great success, as it managed to convey the message:

genetics + architecture = mission indispensable

Overview of architecture, construction and affiliated industries

(excerpts from 'POLONEUM PROPOSAL 2001')

"The level of contemporary technology in building and affiliated industries has remained unchanged for a long time now with occasional introduction of new materials composed of metals and/or synthetics. Development of science and rapid progress in technology over the last few decades has created new opportunities for building industry, which were hardly noticed by architects, builders and professionals of ancillary industries."

"After having analysed the statistical data regarding the state of the environment, but also bearing in mind the economic merit, POLONEUM believes that architectural GM products deserve to be introduced on full scale to the modern building site, so that they can prove to be an unprecedented move towards improving the quality of global habitat to its new heights."

"The qualitative and technological parameters of this scheme are subject to adjustments accordingly with the development of the enterprise. In particular, the genetic modification (GM) shall be promoted for implementation.

Since biotechnology is not developed yet for application of biology in architecture, construction and affiliated industries, the POLONEUM Project shall be the forming grounds for a whole range of innovative biotech terms such as: bioarch, biobuild, biochem, biocast, bioclad, biocloth, biocom, biocomp, bioconst, biocreting, bioduct, biodrain, biofabrication, biofacturing, biofence, bioglaze, biofound, biogut, biolise, bioneering, bionising, bionist, bioplumb, biopulp, bioroof, biosignage, bioseal, biosmith, biostat, biostics, biotile, bioting, biotooling, biotron, biowrap, and many many more.

Tremendous potential of biotechnology is hard to be overestimated and only a distant future will see the results, if ever, because of certain limitations and certain specific conditions to be observed under supervision of institutions nominated by POLONEUM in the due course. For these reasons, it is strongly recommended that an architectural idea of the POLONEUM Project stands strictly aligned with recommendations of the Development Council and the spirit worded in the POLONEUM MISSION."

ADAPTING THE GM ARCHITECTURAL PRODUCTS TO GLOBAL MARKETS

General Product Outline

(original wording from 'POLONEUM PROPOSAL 2001')

The market for GM products proposed by POLONEUM is large and diverse, as is the nature of architecture, construction and affiliated industries. Only a few of the GM products have capacity to successfully enter markets instantly or after a relatively inextensive R&D. The fact is that most of these products can possibly be introduced only in the future, due to their level of complexity and/or such performance parameters, which induce fresh legal issues. In terms of the business viability, the GM products may be classified in the following categories:

A. Exemplary items available for introduction after a relatively short period of R&D:

-   weeds and bushes for stabilising retaining walls and slopes along the roads and excavations

-   decorative elements for exterior and interior office and residential needs

-   garden and interior plants-lanterns, e.g. flowers with enhanced fluorescence and visual effects

-   light sensitive plants for industrial use, e.g. fluorescent road poles with enhanced visual effects

-   grown pergolas, archways and other garden GM type structures

-   construction segments, such as studs and beams

-   bush shelters and park facilities for tourists

-   park facilities for children's recreation

-   cubby houses and tree shelters for outback explorers

-   curiosities of the GM plants for gardening, landscaping and theme parks (ie. giant ferns and
other plant species for a 'Jurassic' and other theme parks)

-   feeding racks for wild animals

-   plants for generating, storing and transforming electricity and EM field

-   other... (for comprehensive list of concepts and projects check www.tiitinstitute.com)

B. The GM products, to be developed and introduced in the course of up to 15 years. Following is
     a list of typical examples:

-   natural, environmentally friendly housing for the aboriginal people e.g. a 'baobab house'

-   sheds and greenhouses for residential/industrial facilities

-   plates, posts, beams, studs, joists, battens, fascias, rafters, struts, purlins, bearers, noggings,
bracings and other timber structural elements

-   living brush fencing, flower fencing

-   race tracks railings and barriers

-   scaffolding

-   watch towers

-   balustrades and rails

-   poles, masts and towers (also for telecommunication and power industries)

-   floor and wall framings

-   timber roof framings and trusses

-   roof and pavement tiling

-   girders and arches

-   corner and intersection framings

-   weatherboarding

-   cover and corner moldings

-   profiled planks and sculptures

-   T-, Y-, C- and L-shaped profiles for timber works

-   cross tree for cult purposes

-   framed external doors and gates

-   ladders

-   street lamps

-   light generating plants for industrial use, e.g. road signs with nanoenhanced visual effects

-   plant - a weather station, media broadcaster/transceiver, computer memory storage, AI module

-   shell outdoor and storm water tanks

-   other... (for comprehensive list of concepts and projects check www.tiitinstitute.com)

C. POLONEUM forecast is that market demand in future would comprise the following GM
     products:

-   GM shaped architectural structures grown not erected

-   commercial and entertainment buildings

-   special purpose megastructures like dams and reservoirs

-   greenhouse structures

-   retaining walls

-   bridges and jetties

-   pieces of outdoor and indoor furniture

-   regular and spiral stairs

-   bricks and wall panels of GM shells

-   coral bathrooms, fencing

-   shell bathtubs, basins, toilets and other bathroom accessories

-   window and door structures

-   fountains and pools

-   garden shelter structures

-   outdoor stages and amphitheatre of GM shells

-   special purpose intelligent GM plants and hybrid technology organisms

-    other... (for comprehensive list of concepts and projects check www.tiitinstitute.com)

Note: The above listings are not comprehensive - the groups of products are projected for purpose of general information only and are subject to a prioritisation at relevant stages of R&D and/or production.

The above GM products, which incorporate unique upgraded and/or yet non-existent features and levels of performance, are unavailable from any source at this point of time. It is up to the global community and its level of general self-awareness to set standards for GM product R&D in the future. The list never ends, as there is an infinite range of applications in architecture, construction and affiliated industriesfor the GM products and technologies, reaching far beyond our imagination today.

Even failed GM R&D products or by-products shall find application. Should these prove not good for the end purpose, yet environmentally benign and interesting enough for display, they would be placed in theme parks - "the bioos". The development and running of a 'bioo' would be similar to the way today's zoo functions, with a similarly great role in educating the general public on our ever changing and versatile environment.

The aim of this Proposal is to bring focus on issues arising from the fact that science and technology have achieved a higher level of sophistication and now need to attract popular attention.

In Australia, president Stan Kabacinski kept fostering growth of the POLONEUM family of organisations by establishing POLONEUM Educational Advancement Charitable Entity Incorporated and POLONEUM Solar City Chapter. In 2009, he co-founded an Australian biotechnology giant - BIOCONST Pty Limited, and in 2011 he founded the world's first company strictly following the Poddebice Seminar's guidelines, the driving force of the global biotechnology conceptualism - TIIT Technology Institrute Pty. Ltd.

POLONEUM is currently working on organising the world's educational events like conferences, seminars, courses etc. in order to popularise the GM movement in the business environment, where personalities and companies will have an opportunity to demonstrate their achievements and brainstorm future development options for a vast, and still virgin, field of the GM Architecture, Construction And Affiliated Industries, which really is about BIOlogy and CONSTruction - the mystique realm of BIOCONST.
